Naas Golf Club Youths Newsletter

The junior golf committee have been working hard behind the scenes over the past few months to ensure our youths have a great golfing season ahead over the coming months.

It's great to see the youths down in the club, as it’s fair to say, our youths have probably been hit the hardest during the pandemic.

We hope you all have a great year, and more importantly, that it is enjoyable. We look forward to seeing you around the club over the coming months.

We would also like to wish Laura & Sam a great year ahead!

Coaching:

The 2022 junior coaching has got off to a great start with our 6-week junior boys programme, which will restart after the Easter holidays. We’re also looking forward to starting a 3-month junior girls programme this month, which will run between April and June. For juniors looking to have fun and learn golf during the Easter holidays, we have an Easter Golf Camp open to members and non-members, running over 3-days (April 20th-22nd), you can book your spot here: www.bookeo.com/garyshawgolf. Further coaching dates, challenges and sessions throughout the summer months are being allocated on junior days and Thursdays, that will cater to all ability levels. All of which will be communicated through ClubZap - please ensure you are signed up to ClubZap to keep updated on the latest news and fixtures for junior members. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email Gary on gary@garyshawgolf.com

Clubzap:

Our communication tool for the Junior section will be Clubzap, so if you haven’t already downloaded the app or registered your name on it, please do. You will see Naas Golf club on Clubzap, along with the various junior groups. If you have any queries, please contact one of the junior committee members.

Golf code of conduct forms:

With our junior golf season starting on April 11th. All youths under 18 years of age must have their code of conduct forms returned to the club office to be eligible to play.

3 forms were sent out to the email on your renewal membership notice. They were; 1. Contact details form

2. Youths conduct form

3. Parents/Guardians conduct form

These forms, when signed, can be returned in hard copy or scanned and emailed to the club as soon as possible. Youths will be blocked from the BRS system if the club does not receive the 3 forms in line with GUI safeguarding policies. Please mark all forms for the attention of Diane Kenny.

BRS:

For new members, if you have not already registered on the BRS, please contact Denis or Joan in the office to get you set up, all youths must be registered on the BRS. Also, don’t forget to top up your purse.

Volunteers:

As with all sporting activities, they don’t run by themselves. Whilst we have a great committee, we also need some additional support from parents. This year, we would like to set up a rota of volunteers to help us out every Monday as per our fixture list. We are looking for starters and rangers, hopefully, we will have enough volunteers, and you will only have to do it once over the course of competition times. Basically, we are asking parents to start the competition, (please note, we will go through what is involved, so you don’t need to be a golfer to do this), and oversee the youths going out on time. For ranger duties, it will involve taking a buggy out on the course and ensuring the youths are moving, with spot checking on cards to ensure they are being filled in correctly. Both tasks will take up 2-3 hours of your time. So please check your diaries and if you can text Julie Foley @ 087 6849249 if you can offer some of your time. The dates are listed below in the fixture list.

Handicap directive issued by Golf Ireland

Golf Ireland have issued a new directive on youth handicaps when playing in adult competitions. For boys, it is

19.9 and for girls it is 39.9.

Matchplay:

This year we will be running a matchplay competition for the youths. This will start in May. Please keep an eye on the noticeboard for when the sheet goes up. There will be one for the boys & girls’ section. Our junior captains, Sam & Laura will lead this.

Golf Ireland Fixtures – Regional & Interclub

Below is the link for competitions outside of the club. This is a great opportunity to meet other junior golfers from different clubs, in some pretty great courses. Once again, if you are not familiar with registering etc, please get in contact with one of the junior committee. https://www.golfireland.ie/boys--and-girls--championships#/customer/1994/schedule/2022

Obtaining your handicap:

It may seem daunting in the early days when starting out, but it is great to work towards trying to get your handicap, the requirement from golf Ireland is 6 x 9 hole cards, so with the long evenings ahead, there is no time like the present to get your child out to get their handicap.

Daytrip:

We hope to organise a fun day out for our juniors at the end of July, more details to follow.
